In the 2nd
edition of facilities management lectures series of the department of estate
management of the University of Lagos on Thursday 18th-oct-2018, titled
value aspirations in facility management
through strategic applications.
The lead speaker, the main speaker, Mr. Collins Osayamwem MSC,CFM,FMP,IFMA fellow managing partner, Sheltercare FM Consult. Spoke on
1. Evolution of facility management
2. Understanding facilities management strategy 3. Understand the impact of facility management strategy 4. Understand how F.M IS monitored 5. Performance management systems and tools BSC (Balance
score card-as tool used to develop F.M strategy).
He said, facility
management became excited when it was discovered that we needed to take care of
the building where we do business, where we work, we play ,we eat and
consequently get into construction of building and sustainability because some
organizations has recognized that if we take care of our support functions it
will help to do business ably well and able to add value to the customers and
delivers on our objectives instead of leaving the facility to go without having
anything to do with it. Therefore as an F.M you must have evolving skills. He
advises that obtaining first degree in facility management instead of
transiting from an existing profession into F.M is better way on in the
practice of F.m as a professional therefore let us get the young ones to
understand that there is a profession called facility management and they sign
up as professionals even in the first degree level.
For instance he is also an Estate surveyor, he transited
from there into facility management even though he is now sub doomed into the
profession right now, which is fine but F.M is a profession which encompasses
multiple discipline and as an F.m professional you must know a lot or bits
about other disciplines to ensure functional basis of the environment.
So from the concept of the expert he said, facility
management is defined as an organizational function, so every organization has
F.m function in it. So when you set up an organization it should have facility
management function in it, which integrates people process and places within
the built environment with the purpose of improving the quality of life of
people and the productivity of the core business. ….
Engr. Rotimi Ogunsola, the best graduating masters’ student

thousand naira and a plague of excellence in this year’s edition.

the celebrated best .
