Share & Comment

In the 2nd edition of facilities management lectures series of the department of estate management of the University of Lagos on Thursday 18th-oct-2018, titled value aspirations in facility management through strategic applications.
The lead speaker, the main speaker, Mr. Collins Osayamwem MSC,CFM,FMP,IFMA fellow managing partner, Sheltercare FM Consult. Spoke on
1. Evolution of facility management 2. Understanding facilities management strategy 3. Understand the impact of facility management strategy 4. Understand how F.M IS monitored 5. Performance management systems and tools BSC (Balance score card-as tool used to develop F.M strategy).
He said, facility management became excited when it was discovered that we needed to take care of the building where we do business, where we work, we play ,we eat and consequently get into construction of building and sustainability because some organizations has recognized that if we take care of our support functions it will help to do business ably well and able to add value to the customers and delivers on our objectives instead of leaving the facility to go without having anything to do with it. Therefore as an F.M you must have evolving skills. He advises that obtaining first degree in facility management instead of transiting from an existing profession into F.M is better way on in the practice of F.m as a professional therefore let us get the young ones to understand that there is a profession called facility management and they sign up as professionals even in the first degree level.
For instance he is also an Estate surveyor, he transited from there into facility management even though he is now sub doomed into the profession right now, which is fine but F.M is a profession which encompasses multiple discipline and as an F.m professional you must know a lot or bits about other disciplines to ensure functional basis of the environment.
So from the concept of the expert he said, facility management is defined as an organizational function, so every organization has F.m function in it. So when you set up an organization it should have facility management function in it, which integrates people process and places within the built environment with the purpose of improving the quality of life of people and the productivity of the core business. ….
Engr. Rotimi Ogunsola, the best graduating masters’ student in facilities management course bagged an award of two hundred and fifty thousand naira and a plague of excellence in this year’s edition.
Engr. Rotimi Ogunsola an indigenous Nigerian from Ogun state speaking with us said, having distinction not what he intends to get but he just deserves the best and learn to add value, so the opportunities to meet with great lecturers and facilitators in the industry not only in the theoretical part but also in the practical aspect whereby the practicing expert were available to share courteously their ideas were the instrumental for him to get the celebrated best .
He said, my passion is to be able to add value, so I want to thank everyone, the lecturers, Prof. Omirin, Dr. Koleosho, particularly I enjoyed performance evaluation, “you know”, that’s one of the best course, and M.K.O, a member of the senior staff of the department.
HOW DID YOU SUCCESSFULLY MANAGE YOUR CHALLENGES AS STUDENT?
I was able to plan. As a class rep. i don’t read at night, I don’t read for reading sake and of course I attended 90% of all the lectures because I understand that what you hear is easier to assimilate when you read further more on them. These are one of the ways I overcame my challenges. And I take seriously assignment, project etc.
Now I want to thank God for this achievement and the C.E.O of Green Facilities Management company for this laudable award, who is a youth and he is doing very well which is a form of encouragement to me.
Uyi Osagie, moderator of the program expressed gratitude to GOD and all present at the event, particularly green facilities Management Company for their 80% financial support to the event.
