REPORT on the Mainland Scout BP day celebration for 2018
The flag of the Annual Bp day celebration for the year 2018
was officially hoisted on the 22nd February day in the five days
camp ceremony slated for the celebration witnessed by Mrs Bello an (ALT) from the state Scout
headquarters, Bode Oyeyipo, Divisional commissioner, and the L.A president Engr. Olasunkanmi Shomoye. The ceremony was held at the African
Cathedral church of Salem.28 candidates were registered into the camp in the
very first day to celebrate with Monday Monye, the camp director. The camp
staff, after registration activity and dinner was given everyone present by
8:00 pm and the candidates were made to rest for the night, following a
directive by the camp leader, held their first staff meeting.
Waking up the next day with thanksgiving and our usual
sectional prayer, exercise and street parade and thereafter the candidates
were sub divided into 4 patrol corners, made to clean the environment ,took
their bath, assembled at flag pole, hoisted the flag then the camp staff were
introduced to them by the camp leader. While charging the campers to relate well to the camp Staff
Including Members of the camp. The fun camp took on leisure like table tennis
playing, ludo game play, hide and seek game,
and
a community service clean up at Oyingbo
ultra Modern market was discharged by the Scouts as part of the strategy
intended for the camp to showcase our value to the people of the community.
Sadly, campers lamented over poor management of the kitchen
activities from the Q.M.F resulting in the teachers of the private schools going for
extra purchase of food for their pupils because of the slow- down in the
preparation of food from the quarter master for food.
But the highlight of the day was arrival of additional 19
candidates, 11 from a private school and others from the public schools into
the camp to make up 48 candidates into the camp.
On the third day activities were embarked on as usual.
Although safety standard was met, our security was normal but there was no
correlation between the camp staffs. The camp leader said I did not have enough
information about the goings of the quarter master for food who after his
purchase of food items will not return to the “C.L” for the report of his
purchase though the ‘C.L” lack watchful eyes on his goings.
And the Scribe who arrived at the camp site on the third day
wrote in his report:” There was an emergency meeting summoned by the D.C, there
was introduction of the staffs of the camp. The D.C addressed the staff about
team work so as to achieve the goal of camping. He emphasized the importance of
team work and he said the team work in this camp is weak and need to be worked
on.
Some questions were asked the “C.L” about the goings of the
camp and he gave response that most of the staffs in the camp failed to follow
his instruction.
The “D.C” said we should learn from ourselves instead of
Waiting for him to come to intervene. He said we can fight and settle it among
ourselves so as to learn from our mistakes.
The account was also asked from the registrar and he gave
what the income is and also the balance at hand.
Under general
The registrar said he
observe that the leaders are problem. He said there was issue among the “C.L”
and the Q.M.F which lead to quarrel among each other.
The camp director further emphasized the importance of staff
meetings in the camp. He said everything that has to do with the leaders should
be discuss during staff meetings.
The Q.M.F said the camp lack amenities such as games,
football etc. and the D.C said he should note them down. And that he observed
that they fail to work as team, which make the camp to him a bit shaky.” - View from the scribe.
It was also reassuring that the divisional commissioner, BODE
OYEYIPO, had while lecturing the campers on the history of LORD ROBERT SMYTH
STEPHEN BADEN POWELL who was born at Stanhope, London on 22nd February 1857, founder of the Scouting movement
worldwide urged the campers to be prepared as Scouting is a game of chance,
opportunities and fun. Also on the same day we received Chief AFUWAH one of the
lecturer in the camp he also pass the light of the good news of parental sensitisation
to the children’s need for moral
upbringing. And we all left for the mosque parade. When we finished prayer one
of the Imam spoke for us encouraging their congregation to allow their
Children join the Scout as it were to
better their moral and practically two parents came forth to make request on
how to make their Children be member. So the day was spent.
Practically, the fourth day sailed as day two.The candidates
and the acting Troop Leader were not found wanting in their assignments.
Hence guests and visitors to the camp ranged from observers,
parents, and the Scout state headquarters officials.
Scout titan, Mrs F.A BELLO(ALT) taught, what is a camp
fire:, Safety measures during camp fire:, How to start a camp fire:, She later went into the kitchen to help cook
the food as the quartermaster for food failed to have got ready the lunch and
the campfire food for the day. Although there was a delay but the “C.L” applied
relieved alternative.
The campfire party later in the day drew a gathering that
was a mix of guests including Engr. OLASUNKANMI SHOMOYE, who presented five
complete Scout uniform as gift to five young Scouts, DANLAMI ADAMU SALLY, a
major in the Nigerian Army, MONDAY MONYE, the D.C etc. were entertained by the
“C.L” And the Scouts with their yarn and the campfire light dance.
The fifth day was the final day of the camp. The campers kit
up, cleaned up the entire camp environment and migrated to THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH
OF SAINT JUDE, EBUTE META(EAST).for their Sunday thanksgiving service where we
were received by the “Mainland L.A” Scout Vice President, CHIEF T.O ADEGBOYE,
spoke about the value of Scouting to the church and enjoined members of the
congregation to allow their children join the movement. He also used the opportunity
to point the need for patronage and gave light refreshment to all present after
the church service. And then the D.C present certificate to the participants of
the camp. -By the C.L 2018
