This year’s edition of the annual AKWAABA, African travel market event is the 17th edition of the biggest travel expo in west Africa which took place at the Eko hotel and suites in Victoria Island Lagos ended on the second day 29th November 2021.The first day set the tone “the opening by Mrs Alex-Ibru, cutting tape, at 12:00 pm and delivered a presentation on the role of the media in promoting tourism and travels. This edition titled “hospitality day”, similarly on the second day was accompanied with discourse on hotel and hospitality, and the first paper was presented by the representative of the ministry of tourism, he mentioned in his speech issues on the laws regulating hotel and about issuance of certificate of operation for hotelier from the past up till date.
What followed was a panel discussion 0n issues like importance of training for the staffs and owners of hotel, identifying the lack of understanding of the conceptual basics of hospitality by unprofessional owners whose mind set for going into the business of hospitality and hotel are to make money without making career, the panelist said “there is a difference between making money and earning a career in the business of hospitality”.
Excellence was recognized and celebrated with awards in hotel business where individuals and operators who had made significant contributions in the growth and promotion of hotel and tourism were acknowledged. More-so, Mrs. Ebikaboere Emmanuel- Seimodei chairman of institute for tourism professionals of Nigeria Fct, chapter, was identified as number one best hotel and tourism management operator.
In the second part of the program for the day when the Lagos State Honorable commissioner for Tourism Arts and culture, Uzamat Akinbile- Yusuf stepped on the podium she was overwhelmed and expressed her joy for seeing a good number of youth turn out for the program, she unveiled details of the Lagos tourism master plan and showcased the video- graphic beauty of Lagos and declare in advance other opportunity available for the youth in the area of graphic designing competition slated for 2022 where the best chosen graphic designed logo to be lunch for promoting Lagos tourism and hospitality from next year will be provided state recognition and cash award. The ambiance of the spot glowed with fun as she entertained every questions pushed to her.
Alongside lunch was served and gifts were shared to the audience and the Honorable commissioner was ushered by the organizer himself “Ambassador Prof. Ikechi Uko with the members of the panel and the audience to the exhibition stand where many photo snapshot were taken.
